Our Pre-School swimming lessons are a fun, structured introduction to independent swimming for young children who are not yet in full-time school. We focus on water confidence, safety and the very first stroke skills, all taught through games, songs and play in a supportive environment.
Who These Classes Are For
- Children 3–4 years old (pre-school age)
- Children who are:
- New to swimming and need to build confidence
- Ready to start listening to simple instructions from a teacher
- Keen to splash, play and learn basic swimming skills
- Parents and carers who want their child to:
- Feel safe and happy in the water
- Learn the foundations of good swimming technique
- Develop water-safety awareness before starting school
Some children will be more confident than others at this age – that’s absolutely fine. Our teachers will always work at each child’s individual pace.
What the Classes Are About
Each Pre-School lesson is planned to help children feel relaxed and confident in the pool, while gently introducing early swimming skills. We focus on:
- Water confidence – getting used to splashing, bubbles and having their face near or in the water
- Independent movement – using floats, noodles and games to encourage kicking and paddling
- Basic body positions – star floats, rocket shapes and glides on front and back
- Early stroke skills – simple arm actions, kicking patterns and breathing foundations through fun activities
- Water safety – listening to pool rules, safe entries and exits, and holding onto the side
Lessons are fun, imaginative and age-appropriate, with plenty of encouragement and positive praise.
What to Expect in a Session
A typical Pre-School swimming lesson includes:
- A gentle warm-up to build confidence getting into and moving around the water
- Games and activities to practise:
- Splashing and blowing bubbles
- Kicking and paddling with and without floats
- Floating on tummies and backs with support
- Simple, play-based exercises to introduce:
- Early front and back stroke movements
- Jumping in (where appropriate) and safely returning to the side
Group sizes are kept small so that every child can receive individual attention and support from the teacher.
